Manchester – Storbritanniens norra huvudstad
Manchester ingår i det storregionala samarbetet ”Greater Manchester” med drygt 2,5 miljoner invånare. Staden är belägen i en av Storbritanniens mest tätbefolkade regioner, med flera stora städer inom några mils avstånd, bland annat Leeds, Liverpool och Sheffield. Inom åtta mils radie bor över 10 miljoner. Manchester har genomgått en resa från nedgången industristad till en attraktiv stad på frammarsch. Flera insatser ligger bakom Manchesters positiva utveckling, t ex bättre infrastruktur, fler internationella direktflyg och universitet med gott rykte. Nya storregionala infrastrukturprojekt som höghastighetsjärnvägen High Speed Two (HS2) kommer troligtvis att stärka Manchesters position ytterligare. Vad kan Stockholm-Mälarregionen lära av Manchester och det storregionala samarbetet? Vilka strategiska beslut och samarbeten ligger bakom framgångarna och vilka utmaningar kvarstår?
